CEO Will Cathcart revealed that WhatsApp has more than 2 billion users worldwide. Including advertising aligns with the company's strategy to diversify its revenue streams and improve user experience.

Contrary to previous statements, Cathcart emphasized that ads appearing in statuses and channels do not interfere with the main message inbox. The standard recommends focusing on public service broadcasts and group chats in these segments.

In addition to speculation about ads, WhatsApp is actively testing new features, including the development of voice messages and stickers. Recommended features include pausing, resuming audio recording, and adding stickers to voice messages. These developments aim to make voice messages more dynamic and add creativity to conversations.

Why is WhatsApp showing ads?

WhatsApp has denied the reports that it is considering placing ads on WhatsApp for apps on its platform. The move, which aims to increase revenue from the messaging service, is said to have caused internal divisions at parent company WhatsApp Meta. With more than two billion monthly active users, WhatsApp is the world’s largest messaging app.


How does WhatsApp makes money?


And yet, WhatsApp offers this service for free. This begs the question - how does the big one make money?


Well, WhatsApp wasn’t always free.


Some countries offer an annual subscription option in which users pay 99% of the fees after a one-year free trial.


Did anyone even pay for it? Yes, 700 million people did. In 5 years.

Stealthy clicks on WhatsApp ads – Facebook and Instagram companies add “send message” buttons to their ads that take you directly to the WhatsApp chat instead of the landing page. 

This is one of the ways Facebook uses WhatsApp to increase its revenue. How much money WhatsApp makes from platforms with these is unknown, but with the growing number of users and Zuckerbergs, the revenue potential looks great.
